For the person on your list who is…..practical to a fault

Gift Guide 2024

This may come as a shock to some of you, but not everyone in your life wants a luxury item so utterly fancy, it ends up gathering dust 364 days a year until they can justify the “just-right” time to use it. Instead, they want a reason to use your gift every day. They want to elevate their weekdays, stretch your hard-earned dollar, and be tenderly reminded of you and your stellar gift-giving skills on a regular basis—not just one-off occasions.

It’s tricky to participate in peak consumerism for the person who insists on less…but fear not: We have just the thing(s) for this utilitarian icon on your list. Because, as it just so happens, our very own Nate Rosen is this person—and boy does he have a lineup of practical goods that’ll transform the mundane into an (extremely sensible) adventure.

Suri Electric Toothbrush ($69 to $87)

I first came across this brand at a trade show—but I’ve quickly started seeing it everywhere! My friend Jess even picked one up at Erewhon. It’s a perfect size, looks great on your counter, super easy to clean the part that gets all gunky (a personal must), and made with recyclable, plant-based material. Plus, the case has a double function: It cleans the brush with UV and charges it.

Flaus ($95 or $75 w/ sub)

It’s time to stop lying to our dentists. I know it, you know it, we all know it: Regular floss is hella annoying to use and nobody actually wants to use it—despite the ever-looming threat of gingivitis. I am SO HAPPY that someone introduced me to Flaus (and Flaus’s incredible founder, Sam), because it has been a godsend. “Like an electric toothbrush, but for flossing,” this little gadget has seriously upgraded my daily dental routine.

Secrid Wallet ($49 to $190)

Introducing: the best damn wallet I’ve ever used. I purchased mine eight years ago in Amsterdam, and it’s continued to impress me with its ability to fit all the cards I need (a lot. I’m a big loyalty card guy) plus some backup cash—while being slim enough to fit in your front pocket. The best feature? You can reach your cards with a flick of the pinky. Built-in swagger, at your service 🫡

Dreamfarm Scizza 2-In-1 ($26.55)

Confession time: I had this on my wedding registry as a joke…but it turned out to be one of my favorite kitchen tools. Now, do I eat pizza often? No. When I do, this is the tool of choice. It cuts like freaking butter. Pair this with some Brightland Pizza Oil and you have the ultimate gift for a pizza lover.

Leaf Shave Bundle's (Twig $75 and Leaf $97)

Switching to a single-blade razor has saved my face—and wallet. I love love love my Leaf Razor (I have the Twig in Prism) and have heard great things about the multi-blade for body shaving. Leaf makes razors sexy, with a sleek metal handle and recyclable blades, absolutely zero plastic, and a crazy close shave. This bundle comes with a stunning case, stand, extra blades, shave soap, and even a silicone grip. Turning a mundane task into a full-on experience? That’s a gift worth giving.

Smoosh ($39 - Starter kit $69)

It’s time to upgrade your shower routine—and ditch that dirty loofah. Made by the same brilliant folks behind Leaf Shave, SMOOSH is wildly functional. The ergonomic back makes it easy to grip, while soft silicone bristles gently exfoliate and lather up the soap. But here’s the genius part: SMOOSH is designed to fit its own custom soap right in the center. Plus, they make an back scrubber handle! It's quality, easy to clean, and seriously satisfying to use—this is a gift that turns the everyday into something extraordinary.

Canopy Portable Humidifier ($100)

It’s dry out there—and your skin is feeling it. We all have a skin-obsessed girlie (or boy-ie?) in our lives, and this portable humidifier is the missing gadget in their routine. It’s super sleek and small enough to fit in their carry-on or on their desk, so they can BYOH(ydrated skin) wherever they go.

Soft Services ($28-$98)

Soft Services has completely changed the skin game for me—and anyone on your list is bound to love their products. The Buffing Bar, Theraplush, and Speed Soak are my three absolute musts from Soft Services.

The Buffing Bar is amazing to treat and prevent ingrowns, buff out and beautifully exfoliate your skin.

Theraplush has saved my cuticles, especially as it gets drier outside. It has a little retinol which promotes cell turnover (though I’m now hypervigilant about adding sunscreen to my hands), and it’s saved my cuticles…which I often stress-attack.

The best, and I mean the best, body lotion I’ve ever used is Speed Soak. By far. It feels incredible, soaks right in and feels great afterwards. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Character Home Toolbox ($145)

It’s hard to find a gift for the DIYer in your life (when they can apparently just…make most gifts). But this year? You’re one step ahead of them. Everyone (especially the DIYers) should have a toolbox, but most are—let’s face it—ugly, stowed in the garage or hidden in a coat closet where they deserve to live. Character’s toolboxes are the exception. They make for the perfect gift: great to look at, genuinely useful, and their tool kit has everything you need (except a cordless drill, which you should also always have).

Nimble's CHAMP Portable Charger ($47.96)

This portable charger is smaller than a deck of cards but powerful (you can charge two devices at once) and fast. Made from 90% recycled plastic, it’s also a carbon neutral product for the sustainability nerd in your life—they also send you a tech takeback bag to recycle that old tech!

Loisa's La Familia Tool Set ($105)

If your practically-minded gift recipient is interested in expanding their cooking repertoire, this  4-piece set is for them. Including a beautifully crafted Tostonera (tostone press), Masher, Skimmer, and Mortar + Pestle, this set is perfect for Latin cooking y más! Bundle it with Loisa’s seasonings (some of my favorites of all time) for an incredibly thoughtful cooking bundle that they’ll actually use.

Counterpart Charger ($44)

Hear me out: it’s time to upgrade your USB-C charger. Now that one charger suits most of our devices, it’s worth upgrading to a better option–and Counterpart is seriously a game-changer. This beautifully designed charger is a plug + cord in one with a retractable cord, so nothing ever gets tangled and everything looks super sleek. This is a charger you’ll want to leave plugged into the wall, so you never lose one again.
